Success of Faith Films and Series Gaining Notice

Faith-based entertainment is big news. But don’t just take our word … publications like The Wall Street Journal and Variety are writing in-depth, positive stories about faith-based entertainment.

The Journal story focused on The Wonder Project and its first offering, HOUSE OF DAVID

“(Jon) Erwin, 42, is a Christian filmmaker whose driving purpose is to put out uplifting stories that families can watch together. After nearly two decades of making small-budget movies in the parallel world of faith-based entertainment, he’s part of a loose tribe of filmmakers, producers, and independent studios from that realm now storming into the mainstream.”

You will be able to watch HOUSE OF DAVID on Amazon Prime beginning in February.

The Variety article focuses on “heartland” entertainment and the potential unscripted shows can have in the faith space. Nick Barnes, an agent with UTA, shared his thoughts.

“‘Some of the things we haven’t tackled yet is, what does heartland unscripted mean in faith and family?’ Barnes said. ‘Faith and family is a buzzword often turned around by the buyers. We know that it’s working on the scripted side, working with The Chosen, it’s working with films coming out of Lionsgate, it’s working with Jon Erwin’s new company and Amazon. That’s all scripted content. But what remains to be seen is what is going to happen in unscripted.’”

Which gets us wondering … what do YOU think would make for a good, unscripted, faith-based program? Let us know is the comments or on our socials.

And congrats on being a Faith Film Fan before it was cool to be a Faith Film Fan!
