Did you ever go to summer camp? Have you sent your kids? Any funny stories come from those experiences? Summer camp has long been fodder for movie mayhem and a new comedy has been added to the mix.
Chris Dowling is our guest on the latest Faith Film Fan Podcast. He talks with host Rick Altizer about his new movie, BAD COUNSELORS, which is in theaters July 22-27 only.
The movie stars Matt Cornett, Ramon Reed, Brec Bassinger, and McKaley Miller. Its premise is built around two fraternity brothers that end a crazy college evening with so many community-service hours they won’t be able to graduate on time.
So why BAD COUNSELORS, Chris?
“I’m a father; I’ve got a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old, and I don’t feel like there’s a lot of stuff for them in this space that just kind of speaks to them as believers. We’ve done test audiences with teens, with young adults, youth groups and I’ve never had this before, but we had a 97% recommend rate, which is crazy.
“These guys start out one way, and they get to get to experience something … that changes them in the end. Certainly, youth groups are going, we’re rallying young adults in the faith space, but also people that just like comedy and family films. There’s such a lack of stuff (out there) that’s not animated, but still for the family. And this is a film that the entire family can enjoy.
“It’s got that camp nostalgia in it too. You know, it’s got a lot of heart and that was the intent.”
