Alex Kendrick is a filmmaker, an actor, and part of Kendrick Brothers Productions. But it’s his role as a father that finds him interviewed in the new documentary HE CALLS ME DAUGHTER.
Alex is the father of four daughters (among his six children).
“God is not a reflection of our broken earthly fathers. He is a perfect Father who heals what we thought could never be healed,” Alex says. “We will project the traits of our earthly father onto God—for better or worse.”
Alex shares these thoughts about the movie and fathering on The Faith Film Fan Podcast with Rick Altizer, the co-host of the FFF Pod. More importantly, Rick is also the director of HE CALLS ME DAUGHTER, his follow-up to directing the Kendrick Brothers’ only documentary, SHOW ME THE FATHER.
After interviewing Alex, Rick then joined Alita Reynolds (our other co-host) to share his thoughts as the film’s director. To start that podcast, Alita tells listeners:
“HE CALLS ME DAUGHTER is such a great film.”
We definitely agree with Alita and would encourage you to listen to both podcasts before seeing the movie in theaters March 16 or 17 only.
“There’s only one perfect father. And your dad’s not it. Men, your job is to lead your daughters to the perfect father,” Rick says. “We all have this piece of glass, and on this piece of glass is a picture of our earthly dad, an etching of our earthly dad. And we look up at God through that piece of glass and we project onto God.”
The movie brings together the stories of women who range from having great dads to having heartbreaking experiences as daughters. Chonda Pierce, Lynsi Snyder, Meg Meeker, and BJ Arnett are among the women who share their stories in the movie.
“So many women are deeply involved in church yet still feel disconnected from God as Father—and they don’t know why,” Rick shares. “When a woman realizes she is truly God’s daughter, everything changes—her identity, her healing, her future.”
You can experience HE CALLS ME DAUGHTER in theaters March 17 or March 18. Be sure to check out the trailer and find a link to tickets on the FFF New Releases page. And if you go to the movie’s website, you can also download a free Bible study based on the movie’s themes.
“Go watch it together. Make your plans right now,” Alita says. “And then grab the curriculum and complete it together. Here’s a way to be equipped to have an accurate view of our Heavenly Father.”
