THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, the movie depicting Jesus’ final hours before his death, is returning to theaters 22 years after its incredible impact on moviegoers and the movie industry.
Chronicling Jesus’ trial, scourging, and crucifixion, the movie became the highest-grossing R-rated movie at the time. The film would dramatically reshape and enliven the faith film industry, providing the impetus for the run of excellent films and television shows that have released over the last two-plus decades.
The special re-release of THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST will be in theaters September 10-17. The movie has been remastered into 4k and this version includes an exclusive sneak peek at Mel Gibson’s highly anticipated sequel, THE RESURRECTION OF THE CHRIST: Part One, which opens in theaters May 6, 2027. The trailer for that film will also be part of this re-release.
Tickets for THE PASSION, which stars Jim Caviezel as Jesus, go on sale July 24 from Fathom.
