{"id":3529,"date":"2025-11-06T15:56:44","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T15:56:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/faithfilmfan.com\/blog\/?p=3529"},"modified":"2025-11-11T16:00:54","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T16:00:54","slug":"a-new-way-to-look-at-horror-films","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/faithfilmfan.com\/blog\/a-new-way-to-look-at-horror-films\/","title":{"rendered":"A New Way to Look at Horror Films"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Written By: Bob Gordon<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">Okay, here\u2019s a headline from a Christian publication we did not expect to read:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>\u201cDid You Know One of Horror\u2019s Most Influential Filmmakers Is a Christian?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/relevantmagazine.com\/culture\/movies\/did-you-know-one-of-horrors-most-influential-filmmakers-is-a-christian\/\">A recent article in Relevant<\/a> shares the spiritual story of filmmaker Scott Derrickson, the creative force behind a number of horror films, including hits like <strong>The Exorcism of Emily Rose<\/strong>,<strong> Sinister<\/strong>, and <strong>The<\/strong> <strong>Black Phone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The article says he\u2019s had a \u201ccareer-long fascination with the thin line between evil and redemption. \u2026 For Derrickson\u2014a graduate of Biola University and an outspoken Christian\u2014that tension isn\u2019t just cinematic. It\u2019s theological.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A producer, writer, and director, Derrickson has been making movies since 1995. In the Relevant article, he\u2019s quoted as saying,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe more frightening and sort of dark and oppressive a movie is, the more free you are to explore the supernatural and explore faith. The two just somehow go hand in hand really nicely. I became very interested in it for that reason, and&nbsp;<em>The Screwtape Letters <\/em>was the beacon.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s really pretty fascinating when you think about it. The questions we\u2019d like to know your answers to are: do you go to see horror films? Why or why not?
