TESTAMENT Brings the Book of Acts Alive with New Series

Written By: Paula Kirkpatrick

Seeking a summer series that sizzles with suspense, danger, and an unstoppable movement of hope? Testament will end your search!

This thrilling new series from Angel Studios reconsiders the book of Acts in a present-day scenario.

“We’re talking about science fiction, dystopian world, evil government,” says Rick Altizer, host of the Faith Film Fan Podcast as he introduces Paul Syrstad, creator, writer, and director of Testament.

“You’ll recognize the story if you’re familiar with the book of Acts,” Paul says. “We dive straight into the whirlwind that is Pentecost, but we’ve set it in this alternate modern day.  It’s a world that looks a lot like ours, feels a lot like ours, but with some key differences.”

Peter, Stephen, Mary Magdalene—characters with familiar names—are unified with other believers in this current-world setting. With courage, they face threats and peril as they carry out their mission. Opposition arises at every turn. Can they persevere? Will they prevail?

“When I preach at my church, I get the congregation to imagine ourselves back in the early church,” Paul shares. “What if I try and do it the other way? Re-engage with a story in a way that might hit us a little differently.”

Filmed in England over a 16-week period, Season 1 consists of eight episodes. Each episode was written collaboratively by Paul, his wife Faith, and his brother-in-law, Kenneth Omole.

“It looks good. It sounds good.” Rick notes in the podcast. “This looks like a big-budget film and what pulls it over the top is the level of acting that I’m seeing. Really well done.”

How’s that for a recommendation? Beat the heat with the exciting series, Testament. And be sure to listen to the Faith Film Fan Podcast for more details about great faith films and series!
