Excellent New FFF Podcast Features Steve Taylor

Written By: Bob Gordon

Steve Taylor might be the most interesting man in faith entertainment. From iconic recording artist to record-label founder. From cutting-edge filmmaker to training up the next generation of faith storytellers at Lipscomb University. From executive producer on an unexpected comeback album by Russ Taff to producer of the recent Angel release SKETCH. And we haven’t even mentioned helping Mike Nawrocki bring The Dead Sea Squirrels to life!

No wonder why Faith Film Fan Podcast co-host Rick Altizer wanted to interview Steve! In the scintillating conversation, Steve and Rick talk about the movie business, the record industry, taking risks, and working with people you love and trust.

“There’s nothing that hurts quite as much as if you feel like you’ve done something really good and it never really had a chance because there wasn’t the support behind it,” Steve says. “So, when I started the Squint record label, I had already produced the Sixpence None The Richer album and I did it using credit cards. They just didn’t trust anybody; their record label had gone bankrupt. And they asked me if I’d start a record label and I just thought this album is too good to not get the support it needs so that was where the Squint label started because I wanted them to have a have a real shot with this great project.”

Throughout the podcast, you hear Steve talk about the risks he’s been willing to take to help artists and storytellers. As Rick tells him,

“You’re visionary, but you’re not a selfish visionary. You use your vision to help others. So, it’s an other-centered vision, which is an amazing gift and a great use of your talents and gifts that Christ has given you not for yourself but to serve and love others.”
